Approximately 50 cars have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Automobiles, exterior walls and mailboxes were defaced, sometimes with swastikas, they stated in a statement.
Law enforcement report they were contacted late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been covered with a reddish-hued liquid.
The liquid had been drawn in the shape of a banned symbol, they reported.
Officers then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under legislation prohibiting the public display of Nazi symbols.
Police state preliminary tests suggest the fluid was likely human blood.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; officials are currently not aware of any harm in association with the incident," they stated.
City officials announced they were trying "to solve the mystery" and have asked to the residents for tips.
A high-ranking political figure said the incident rendered him without words and required to be resolved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing terrorist attack half a decade ago," he stated on online, referring to the killing of nine individuals by a gunman targeting people of immigrant origin in 2020.
